This 2,800 sq. ft. 3 bed, 4 bath was developed for OS Principal Peter Sabbeth and his young family in 2008 in collaboration with sand_box architects.
The magnificent North Haven site, surrounded by water and wetlands on all sides, begged for walls of glass to incorporate true indoor/outdoor living. A stacking glass door system was created to open the entire first floor to nature with a screening system that could turn the entire house into a screened-in porch.
Cork floors and white birch panel walls accentuated the natural feel, while a large milk glass skylight split the house in two and bathed the interior with daylight and created a sun warmed lounge for cold winter days.
The home’s immersion in and reverence for nature is no less evident than through it’s small footprint for visual impact and renewable energy systems. Solar Panels, a small dipping pool heated by geothermal water, hydronic radiant throughout, and not a fossil fuel to be found on the property became a source of pride for Peter and his family as one of the first truly green homes in the Hamptons.
